Firmware Upgrade

R7 Firmware Upgrade Guide

Before You Start

Pre-check

Ensure all preconditions are met before initiating the firmware upgrade to prevent interruption or failure.

Bluetooth Enabled Phone BLE must be on
Battery ≥ 30% RD & shifter both charged
Stable Internet Wi-Fi or 4G/5G recommended
Stay Connected Do not exit app mid-process

Upgrade Process

Estimated time: 5–10 minutes

Connect the Device

Open the WHALEROAD App and navigate to the Bikes page. Verify that the Rear Derailleur (RD) and related devices show as connected.

  • ✓ Shifters paired

Open Firmware Update Page

Enter the E-Shifting page and select Firmware Update under the More Functions section.

Review Firmware Information

Review the firmware ID, file size, version number, status, and release notes before confirming the update.

Perform the Firmware Upgrade Critical

Tap Update Now. The firmware file will transfer to the device. A progress indicator will be displayed. Do not interrupt the process.

Verify Completion

After the upgrade, the device restarts and reconnects automatically. Confirm the new firmware version is displayed in the app.

Upgrade Status Reference

Understand the LED indicators and app messages you may encounter during the firmware upgrade process.

LED Indicators During Upgrade

Green Blinking Firmware is being written — do not interrupt
3 Green Flashes Then Off Upgrade complete, device restarting
Red Blinking Upgrade failed
LED Off Device restarting or in deep sleep

App Status Messages

Transferring Data is being sent to the RD via Bluetooth.
Completed Upgrade successful. Device is restarting.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues during the firmware upgrade, follow the steps below before contacting support.

Connection Lost During Upgrade

Bluetooth disconnected or app shows "Device Not Found"

Upgrade Stalled or Frozen

Progress bar stuck for more than 5 minutes

Unable to Reconnect After Upgrade

Device does not appear in the app after restart
